Board Meeting and Annual Election

Hello Membership,

Each year we hold an election to fill the upcoming vacant positions on the Board of Trustees for the Shaker Figure Skating Club. Our election is always held just prior to the Annual Board Meeting. This year the Annual Meeting and Election will be on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Thornton Park in the ballet room at 7:00 pm. Election information can be accessed by clicking here.  Please try to come out and vote and then you are welcome to stay for the Annual Board Meeting to follow. Below you will find brief bios of all the candidates who are running for the three open Trustee positions and the four Executive board positions as well as an absentee ballot form if you are unable to vote in person the night of the election/meeting.Please note the absentee ballots must be returned by April 25, 2016 either via email (scan the COMPLETED ballot and attach it to an email to me, sfscsecretary@aol.com), in the club mailbox in a sealed envelope with your membership number on the envelope, and ATTN: Angie Chapple-Wang, or to my home 34605 Jaclyn Drive, Solon OH 44139.

PRESIDENT

Rochelle Paley

I am running for re-election as president of the Shaker Figure Skating Club. I have previously held the position of vice president – for two terms (four years) and I served as a member of the Board of Trustees for one term (two years).  I am also currently the head monitor, and have been a monitor for many years.  My service to the club also includes volunteering at the High School competitions, planning the holiday shows, coordinating the ice show flower sales, the club jackets sales, helping at testing sessions and the banquet/lock-in, etc.  During my terms of office, I implemented a procedure for approving new coaches, revised the coaching agreement, and enforced the new coaching requirements.  I also implemented the concussion policy.

My daughter Charlotte Fusco is a sophomore at Shaker Heights High School and is currently a member of SFSC. My daughter Alex Fusco, a former member, recently graduated from Allegheny College and is working in Boston.  I am married to David Fusco and we have lived in Shaker Heights since 1988.  I am the Shaker Heights High School Figure Skating team advisor and I have volunteered for the Shaker Sharks Swim Team, Lomond and High School PTOs as well as the Sussex Association.  I have been an attorney since 1989 and I am a partner with the firm of James D. Wilson LLC in Pepper Pike.

VICE PRESIDENT

Miki Graban

I have worked as an award-winning Art Director for over eleven years and currently am a freelance graphic designer.  I have served on the Board of Playhouse Square Partners for nine years and am currently on the Board of the Center for Art Inspired Learning (formerly known as Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio) where I chaired their 60th Anniversary Gala in 2013. I am the 2016-17 Boulevard Elementary PTO President-Elect. I also am chair of the school’s Used Book Sale and this year’s 4th Grade Clapout. My passions usually include what my children’s passions are! Spending time with family, traveling, baseball, horseback riding, & ice skating. Although I am not nearly as talented as they are, I love to support them.

Sharon Deutchman

My name is Sharon Deutchman and I am the mother of skater Alexandra Deutchman, as well as two adult sons. I have been volunteering on many levels at the club since 2007.  I am currently co-test chair.  After a thirty two year career in the hospitality industry, I embraced my love of music by becoming a licensed Kindermusik early child educator, employed by Kindermusik of Cleveland since 2009.

Passionate about the arts, I have worn many hats at my Temple through the Temple Arts Program, bringing programming through the arts to the Temple community.  I currently performs in two choral groups, senior venues, and community sponsored musical productions. I am also a mosaic artist, and the founder of Mosaics by Shroonova. Other interests and hobbies include tennis, gardening, cooking, and travel.

Stacey Krantz

My name is Stacey Krantz. My daughter Zoe has been skating with the Shaker Figure Skating Club since Fall. 2011.  I bring the perspective of a parent with a middle school aged skater to the club. Membership has been a wonderful experience for Zoe, from meeting new friends to developing new skills and discipline to improve her skating. I have enjoyed working with and getting to know the skaters, families and coaches. I have had the opportunity to hold the position of Trustee on the SFSC Board since September 2012 and would like to continue to support the club in this capacity. I have enjoyed volunteering at numerous events, as well as co-chairing the Used Dress Sale, banquet, and lock-in overnight. Professionally, I am an Intervention Specialist with the Shaker Heights City School District. I have also spent many years volunteering in my children’s schools, and I have been involved in their many interests and activities. I feel I have insight, skills, and dedication to children.  I look forward to the time ahead with our skaters and families while working together to help the SFSC continue to flourish.

TRUSTEE NOMINEES

Debra Hollander

My name is Debra Hollander and I am running for the position of SFSC Trustee.  I have served the club in a variety of volunteer positions, including as a monitor, maintaining the club bulletin board, developing and printing the program for the holiday show as well as volunteering at many ice shows and Ohio High School Competitions.  I led the SFSC in a successful partnership with Pavilion Skating Club to bring the first S.T.A.R.S. Combine to Northeast Ohio last summer and am spearheading the effort to do so again on June 11, 2016.

Both of my daughters, Maya (age 14) and Noa (age 7) are members of the SFSC.  I have lived in Shaker Heights for almost my entire life and am a proud Shaker Schools alumna.  I am also actively involved on the Mercer PTO and will serve as VP of Communications in the coming school year.  My husband, Jason, and I have been married for 17 years and live in the Mercer neighborhood of Shaker Heights.

I run my own marketing and communications firm called DBMH Marketing & Communications.  My latest client is Game On! Sports 4 Girls, a growing sports organization dedicated to creating exceptional multi-sport programming for girls ages 4-14.  I will be serving as their Regional Marketing Director.

Erika Leiken

My name is Erika Leiken and I am running for a Trustee position on the Shaker Figure Skating Club Board. I have two daughters in the Shaker FSC: Caleigh, an 8th grader, who joined in 2010 and Sascha, a 3rd grader who joined in 2014.  My son, Jaren, a 6th grader, has played Shaker Youth Hockey since he was four years old. I also grew up skating in the Shaker FSC and it has been a pleasure to watch my daughters, as well as my niece, participate in the club. I am an attorney and recently closed my business, StrollerMama, after running it for over 10 years.  I am excited to have a more flexible schedule that will allow me the opportunity to spend more time with my kids and be more involved with the Shaker FSC. With both an older, more experienced skater and a younger, beginner skater in the club, I feel I can help look after the interests of a wide range of skaters and families in the Shaker FSC. I am excited to have the time to be able to use my skills, enthusiasm and passion for skating to help develop the Shaker FSC and continue to make it a great organization for our children to be a part of.

Carolyn Kramer Hawk 

My name is Carolyn Kramer Hawk and I am a former Human Resource Manager, from a high technology company, with over 20 years experience.  I also act as a consultant in my field in both volunteer and paid positions. Currently, I am an advisor to the Shaker Youth Center organization and have had several board positions with the Youth Center, Cerebral Palsy Organization, Scarborough House for Women, and United Way.  My daughter, Claire , has been skating with the SFSC since 2004.  Claire will be graduating in 2018.  I have also served as monitor and volunteer for various activities at the Club.
