Can you believe it- Tickets go on sale today!  Join us for annual Shaker Spring Ice Spectacular “A Red Carpet Affair”- Oscar Night on Friday May 21^st at 7:30 pm and Saturday 22^nd at 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm.  Ticket prices are listed below!  We really need your support!  Bring as many people as you can!

Thornton Park Ice Arena will close beginning Monday, May 24 during installation of new compressors. Work is scheduled for completion in early August. The arena will re-open for skating on Monday, August 16. Contracted skaters may receive a refund or credit for the two weeks affected by this closure. If you would like a refund for your contracted ice time over those two weeks please contract Jodie Herbst at, sfsciceadmin@gmail.com. If Jodie does not hear from you she will automatically credit your Spring bill. If you do not have a balance due she will forward it to the Fall 2010 contract.

The 2010 Sunshine Invitational, hosted by The Mentor Figure Skating Club, will be held July 17, and 18, 2010 at the Mentor Civic Arena, 8600 Munson Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060.  The application must be postmarked by June 1, 2010.

FYI~Upcoming competitions and test sessions for this summer at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid, N.Y

• Test Sessions will be held June 27, August 1 and August 29 with judging panels through senior moves and freestyle and international dance.  Canadian gold tests may also be available. Test forms are available on: http://www.lakeplacidskating.com/newsite/applications/index.php
• 2010 Lake Placid Figure Skating Championships will be held June 24-26.  Events are available for all levels from No Test – Senior. There will be final rounds and on-ice seminars for skaters in juvenile-senior.  It’s a great way to warm up for the rest of the season!  Entry deadline is May 25, 2010.  Information and application is available on:  http://www.lakeplacidskating.com/newsite/competitions/free_skating/index.php
• 2010 Lake Placid Ice Dance Championships will be held August 4-7.  Events are available for teams from Pre-Juvenile – Senior as well as adult dance teams.  Solo dance events are available as well including adult solo dance and solo original dance.  Entry deadline is June 14, 2010.  Information and application is available on:  http://www.lakeplacidskating.com/newsite/competitions/ice_dance/index.php

Here are a few more competitions that are coming up in the area:

Skate Detroit will be held July 21-24, 2010 at the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Application deadline is May 21, 2010.

The Grand Rapids Open Figure Skating Competition will be held June 24-26, 2010 at the Patterson Ice Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Application deadline is May 8, 2010.

Skate Chautauqua will be held August 13-14, 2010 at the Jamestown Skating Club in Jamestown, New York. Application deadline is July 1, 2010. Click on this link for more information and for entry forms.

There are several competitions coming up in the area. The Tri-State Memorial Free Skating Championship will be held April 23-25, 2010 at the Pavilion Skating Club in Cleveland Heights. The deadline for entry is March 15, 2010. The Ann Arbor Springtime Invitational will be held May 20-23, 2010. The application deadline is March 31, 2010.
Please note: The Strongsville Skating Club will be hosting their Spring Fling April 17-18, 2010 at the Hoover Arena in Strongsville. The deadline for entry is March 5, 2010 extended until Wednesday March 17, 2010

On Wednesday, March 10, 2010, there will be no afternoon or evening ice due to the test session. Contracted skaters will receive a credit. The sessions effected are 4:45 pm-5:45 pm, 5:45 pm-6:30 pm and 6:30 pm-7:30 pm.

Attention! Inclement Weather information:
Thornton Park Ice Rink is OPEN Friday February 26, 2010 which includes the PSE Clinic scheduled for 4:45-5:15 and Club Ice scheduled for 5:15-6:15. The City of Shaker Heights has a recreation hotline available at 216-491-3143. In the event of a closing of Thornton Park Ice Rink, it will listed on this hotline along with all other cancellations and closing within the Shaker Heights Recreation System. This hotline number is also listed on the CONTACTS page for future reference.

SFSC Tights Sale

US Icewear has again given the Shaker Figure Skating Club a great opportunity–to buy something you need AND raise funds to offset ice costs at the same time—by purchasing skating tights!! All profits go directly to the Club.

Just fill out the order form (click the link) by April 1, 2010 to receive your order in time for the ice show and spring competitions. Please order carefully. There are no refunds or exchanges except for defective merchandise.

The 2010 Spring Ice Contract is now available in the “Forms” tab of this site. The contract will run from March 8, 2010 through June 5, 2010 and is due to the Ice Administrator by February 22, 2010.

Practice Ice

One hour of practice ice will be available each day prior to the start of the competition–10:00 am-11:00 am on Saturday and 8:00 am-9:00 am on Sunday.   You may purchase the ice at the door. The cost is $10.

Photography/Video

Motophoto will be on site to take action photos and will be selling them at the event.    We do not have a videographer. You are welcome to videotape the event so long as you are not obstructing the view of the officials, Motophoto or other guests.

Food/Refreshments

Thornton Park is thrilled to announce that 32 Degrees Cafe will be in operation during the entire event.   They will be offering hot breakfast, fruit, yogurt, hot entries, soup (in addition to the regular concession foods).

Vendors

The Bag Lady will have a table our event.  We also will have a medal engraver on site.

Location

This event will be held at Thornton Park Ice Arena - 3301 Warrensville Center Road, Shaker Heights OH.   There is ample parking available.  The event is free – ask friends and family to attend and cheer on your team!

Try outs will be held next Tuesday, January 26, 2010 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm for those skaters interested in a solo/feature in the show who have not passed the Juvenile Free skate test.  Skaters must sign up prior to the tryouts. A sign up sheet is on Erin’s window at the rink, please contact Erin Schopf with any questions.
