The 2011 Ohio High School Team Figure Skating Championship will be held February 12 and 13, 2011 at Thornton Park Ice Arena. Entries must be postmarked by December 15, 2010. Go to the HS Competition page of this website for more information and to download the announcement and application.
The next test session at Shaker is scheduled for Friday, October 15, 2010. Applications are available at the rink as well as on the club website in the “Testing” tab as well as in the “Forms” tab. The 2010 Rising Stars Competition will be hosted by the Garfield Heights Skating Club on November 13-14, 2010 at the Dan Kostel Recreation Center in Garfield Heights, Ohio. Application deadline is October 4, 2010.
The 2010 Brooklyn Autumn Skills Competition will be hosted by the Brooklyn Skating Club on November 20-21, 2010 at the John Coyne Recreation Center in Brooklyn, Ohio. Application deadline is October 4, 2010.
The 2010 Fall/Winter Ice Contract is now available. Our Fall ice begins on Monday, August 23, 2010. Priority for skating sessions goes by seniority but you must have your contract postmarked by the deadline of August 14, 2010 to maintain your priority. Jodie Herbst is our Club Administrator. Please mail your contracts to her as soon as possible. The contract is located on this website at the link above and also on the “Forms” tab.
The Board of Shaker Figure Skating Club realizes that all of you have a choice of activities for your skaters and other family members and you also have a choice of where to skate. We appreciate your loyalty to Shaker Figure Skating Club and believe that our 2010-2011 offerings will be very rewarding.
We recently learned about a new fundraising opportunity for our club. The fundraising is through a new website, MySkatingMall.com. It is a marketplace to buy and sell new and used skating items. In many ways, it is similar to eBay but customized for figure skating. MySkatingMall.com allows skaters and parents to list gently used skating items for sale. Between 5% and 90% of every sale on this site goes to our club. All basic listings on the site are completely free until March 2011. After that, a $1-per-item-per-year listing fee begins.

The Athlete Development Committee of US Figure Skating invited Greta Reibe and Jacob Jaffe to participate in the Developmental International program for 2010 – 2011. This was based on their top 5 finish at the 2010 US Junior Nationals. The purpose of this event is to provide skaters who have demonstrated success at a developmental level with a simulated “Team USA” experience. Athletes will arrive at the event as a team and will remain a part of the team throughout the event. Participating athletes will be required to stay at the official hotel, room with another team athlete and participate in team activities and sessions. U.S. Figure Skating and the Athlete Development Committee will provide Team Leaders who will be responsible for the athletes during the competition – just as is expected at an international competition. They will be competing at Skate San Francisco at the Yerba Buena Ice Skating Center, in San Francisco, Calif., August 26-29, 2010.

The 2010 Sunshine Invitational, hosted by The Mentor Figure Skating Club, will be held July 17, and 18, 2010 at the Mentor Civic Arena, 8600 Munson Road, Mentor, Ohio 44060. The application must be postmarked by June 1, 2010.
On behalf of the Shaker Figure Skating Club, thank you for your membership and participation in Club activities this past year. Current Shaker Figure Skating Club membership expires June 30, 2010, and, as we head into summer, it’s time to renew your membership for 2010-2011.
The Membership Application, the Release/Emergency Medical Information Form and the Parent Code of Conduct (click the link to download forms) all need to be completed and returned with payment to Emily Davidson, Membership Administrator for the Shaker Figure Skating Club no later than June 30, 2010.
Please note that Club dues are remaining the same as this past year. Of special note, U.S. Figure Skating is offering an introductory membership for people who are new to U.S. Figure Skating. This discounted rate is available to people who have never been full members of U.S. Figure Skating, either as an individual or with any figure skating club. If you know of any skaters who are considering making the transition from Learn-to-Skate, this introductory rate is for them. Please help us spread the word! Please renew early to avoid the rush and to ensure that your membership does not lapse. Emily will be available at the Annual Awards Banquet next Friday, June 11 to collect renewal forms and payment.

On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, there will be no afternoon or evening ice due to the test session. Contracted skaters will receive a credit. The sessions effected are 4:45 pm-5:45 pm, 5:45 pm-6:30 pm and 6:30 pm-7:30 pm.

The banquet is an opportunity for the skaters to receive recognition for their achievements this year, and for everyone to meet other skaters and their families, and meet the new SFSC board.
